Location: Farnsworth Pavilion inside the Rice Student Center
Guest Instructors: Chris Mayer and Campbell Keatinge-Clay
Price: $50 early bird (ends August 22), $60 regular, FREE for RSDS student members
Chris and Campbell are coming from Austin to teach their unique approach to Blues dancing, drawing in fundamental concepts from Argentine Tango, Swing, and Ballroom into a form of dancing that perfectly matches rhythmic, soul-filled Blues music. No partner necessary and no previous dancing experience is required. This will be a progressive workshop open to beginners who want to learn how to Blues Dance as well as to more experienced dancers who want to add advanced moves and styling to their dance repertoire.
Schedule:
10:30 – 12:30 — Building Up The Basics
12:30 – 1:30 — Lunch
1:30 – 4:30 — Movin’ and Groovin’ Blues (30 minute break in the middle)
Instructor Information
Chris and Campbell are both amazing Blues dancers with a diverse background in a variety of dancing styles. They currently live in Austin and frequently travel across the country, spreading their love for this burgeoning dance. Continuing Dancing
Houston features several dance venues for Blues Dancers. Every Saturday (except the week of Taft) there is free dancing at Té House of Tea. The music played is typically Swing but many songs have a strong emphasis on Blues. There will a dance at House of Tea on the day of the workshop starting at 9:00 PM and participants of the workshop are encouraged to attend and practice their new moves.
