Class Locations/Parking Info

Ballroom classes are located in the the Grand Hall of the Rice Memorial Center (building #62 on the campus map), and Multi-Purpose Room 2 of the Recreation Center (#51). Swing lessons will be in the McMurtry Commons (#49). Parking can also be located on this map. We recommend parking in the Jones School garage, North Lot, or the Covered Building.

Partners

You do not need to bring a partner. Students will rotate partners during the classes. This means that you won’t dance with any one person for more than a couple of moves. (If you come with a partner and wish to stay with them through the class, please talk to the instructor beforehand to see if they will allow it.)

What to wear

Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes (no flip-flops: they will fall off your feet!).

Can’t make the first day of classes?

Don’t worry! You are welcome to join us at any time during the semester. The instructors review the previous class every week, and they will be working on basic steps for at least the first couple of weeks.

Instructors

Angel Bush holds a BA degree in Dance with an emphasis in Choreography from SUNY Potsdam. After college she taught ballroom in New Jersey, where she worked at Arthur Murray studios for 3 years and then in an independently owned studio for another 4 years. She is ISTD certified ballroom teacher and has taught at all levels and particularly loves to work with beginners. Angel enjoys competing Pro-Am with her students as well as choreographing showcase routines. Over the years she has had many wedding couples come to her for their first dance and continue afterwards because they had so much fun.

Angel now lives in Houston where she teaches in both American and International Styles, and she specializes in International Standard. She also teaches club dances such as west coast swing, hustle, night club two-step and bachata. She looks forward to meeting you at your first lesson!

Hank Hauffe is an experienced swing dancer who has taught many classes for the Houston Swing Dance Society (HSDS), Rice Social Dance Society (RSDS), and Second Cup Swing. Hank loves the dance and teaching what he feels to be the heart of the dance – its energy; and its connection in the moment with the music and each other. Hank started the swing dance night and lessons at Taft Street Coffee along with Amber Thomas in October 2004. In July 2006 these lessons and very successful monthly dance were re-christened Second Cup Swing. In January of 2008, Second Cup Swing began another Saturday night dance, know as “Demitasse”, that is scheduled weekly at Té House of Tea.
