Dear RSDS’ers –

The reign of your 2009-2010 RSDS officers is coming to a close, and it’s time to choose the new leadership that will guide and grow RSDS in the coming year!

If you’re interested in getting more involved with RSDS – as an elected student officer OR just as a person who wants to help get stuff done – please contact me!

(Election ballots will be sent out one week from this Friday, so if you want to run for an office, contact me before April 8.)

These are the officer positions that need filling:

1. PRESIDENT — The primary representative and contact of the organization. Ensures compliance with SA and University rules. Sets a vision and direction for the club, supports the Event Coordinators, and makes sure we stay true to our mission of promoting all sorts of social dance at Rice. (Can run as individual or pair.)

2. EVENT COORDINATORS (Ballroom, Swing, and Tango) — Plans, organizes, and executes classes and events. Contacts/schedules/hires instructors. Present at classes and events to coordinate set-up, clean-up, and music. (Can run as individual or pair.)

3. TREASURER — Handles reimbursements, maintains records of the club’s funds. RSDS’s primary contact with the Cachier, Payment Solutions, and the Finance office. (Can run as individual or pair.)

4. SECRETARY (a.k.a. Publicity Coordinator) — The information nexus. Knows what’s going on, and gets the info out to the members and community. Leads publicity and recruitment efforts. (Can run as individual or pair.)

The SPJST in Pasadena (3609 Preston) will be having a “variety dance” – about 95% Ballroom Dance & Latin Dance on selected Saturday, 7 pm – 11 pm. Cost is $8.

This is the largest dance floor in Houston – 2.5 x Chandelier. It is a fabulous wood floor, wear your suede-bottom shoes. This is not a sticky floor.

Now, the DJ is Frank Arfele (from Melody Lane);

To fill this big size of the floor, this venue usually only has country-western dances in the past.

Lately, they start “variety dances ” – an effort to attract ballroom dancers. However, for the past one year, they have always used their country-western DJ!

Now, they have gone to extra expense to try to make this work – hiring Frank Arfele as DJ.

Since this place is sooo big, your group can practically claim any corner as your own territory. The Mainland group usually sits near the snack bar.

Please support this effort of the SPJST & claim the new, excellent floor from the CW for more ballroom dances in the 2011!

PS: Directions:

From 45, take beltway 8 towards Pasadena. Take the last free exit (Genoa / Red Bluff, Crenshaw, Preston).

Turn left on Preston, travel thru the lights at Crenshaw and Fairmont. Lodge is on the right between Fairmont and Vista.

If you get to Spencer, you passed it. They have a large sign. Park on either side of the building.
